Why Arsenal should go all out to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus in this summer’s transfer window

Although last summer’s transfer window was somewhat underwhelming for Arsenal fans, the Gunners still made one marquee signing – Petr Cech.

The previous year saw the arrival of Alexis Sanchez and the summer before that Mesut Ozil joined from Real Madrid.

Arsene Wenger has been making a habit of making a world class signing each year.

This year, I hope the club manage to pull off a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.

The likes of Real Madrid will be interested in signing Reus if he were to become available but, if Wenger could lure the German to the Emirates, the 26-year-old could make all the difference.

Whilst we have plenty of options on the right-hand side, we are lacking a world-class player there. Reus would be the perfect fit.

A world-class striker is at the top of most fans wish lists but there are very few on the market.

As a goal-scoring midfielder, Reus is the next best thing. The German has managed 45 goals in 95 appearances during his three and a half years at Dortmund

Reus fits the profile of a big money Wenger signing. He’s an attacking player, entering the prime of his career.

Considering the size of the other clubs likely to be interested in signing him, Arsenal would almost certainly have to break their transfer record to complete a deal.

The £42million spent on Mesut Ozil has proven to be a great value, and Reus would have a similar impact on the first team.

Adding someone of Reus’ calibre would also help the Gunners become serious contenders in Europe.

With Sanchez, Reus and Ozil, Arsenal would possess one of the best-attacking midfield trios in Europe.

Arsenal are lacking a player on the right who can contribute to possession and also score consistently. Theo Walcott is normally efficient in the final third, and Aaron Ramsey offers that extra body in the midfield battle, but nobody in this current squad can do both.

I feel signing Reus would help nullify that problem and complete our attacking midfield.

Considering how much of an effect he would likely have, I think Arsenal should do everything and spend nearly anything to secure him this summer.
